An annotative board was opened to the author of the anthem of Ivano-Frankivsk
On Saturday, October 18 there was opened an annotative board to the famous city poet and dissident Yaroslav Doroshenko in Ivano-Frankivsk. The memorial sign was placed near a century-old house in 27 Snizhna str. where Yaroslav spent the last years of his life.
Yaroslav Doroshenko was a member of the Union of Journalists; he published
many collected volumes of poetry and headed the Regional Union of Writers. He
wrote the lyrics for the song "My Ivano-Frankivsk" - a musical
attribute of Stanislaviv. The current head of the Carpathian writers Eugene
Baran mentioned at the opening ceremony of the board that the
number of writers of the Union doubled during the period of Doroshenko`s work.
He also helped young writers to get flats, to publish their books; he wrote
prefaces, reviews and edited manuscripts. He was not afraid to give way to
young writers.
Before this there were much harder times. In the summer of 1950 he was arrested and sentenced to 25 years, deprived of civil rights for 5 years and his all property was confiscated. During the investigation he was accused of writing and distributing anti-Soviet poetry since 1947 and membership in OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists) since 1948. He served his sentence in Vorkuta and worked on the widely known No. 29 Mine, where a rebellion broke out on August 1, 1953. `Doroshenko`s sacrifice for the nation is a good example for the Ukrainians and the residents of Ivano-Frankivsk’, said the People`s Deputy of Ukraine Ruslan Martsynkiv during the presentation of the board.
‘When Yaroslav Doroshenko passed into eternity in 2007 the city launched a literary award named after him,’ said Mykhailo Veres - the Deputy Mayor - at the opening ceremony. The head of the commission on education in the City Council Oksana Savchuk confirmed the famous words - "the poet lives until people read his poems." Oksana Savchuk thanked his wife - Hanna Doroshenko - for active popularization of Doroshenko.
The annotative board (within the framework of the program "Ivano-Frankivsk – the city of heroes") is placed near the house where Yaroslav Doroshenko lived, in Snizhna Street. His wife Hanna remembers that it happened to Mr. Yaroslav to live in different houses in this street. Therefore, the today`s event has an important symbolic meaning for the family.
An annotative board to Yaroslav Doroshenko is the 15th one within the framework of the program "Ivano-Frankivsk – the city of heroes." Its initiator is the People`s Deputy of Ukraine Ruslan Martsynkiv.
There is a special code on the board that directs people interested in the outstanding figure of Doroshenko by means of a mobile scanner to a special site of the program geroi.if.ua.
